  • Woofs & Whiskers Calendar Photo Contest

    Think your pet has what it takes to be the next cover star?

    The LPCHS Woofs & Whiskers Photo Contest is almost here, proudly sponsored by Durango Motor Company! Enter your favorite photo of your furry friend, rally your friends and family to vote, and help support the animals at La Plata County Humane Society.

    The photo with the most votes will receive a professional photo session with Crisp Clicks, be featured on the cover of the 2026 LPCHS calendar, and choose their pet's month! The next 10 highest vote-getters will also earn a featured month in the calendar.

    Contest runs August 1–31.

    Every $1 vote helps provide care for homeless pets while supporting the Humane Society's mission.

    Community Pet Remembrance Ceremony

    Join the La Plata County Humane Society for a special Community Pet Remembrance Ceremony in honor of National Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day.

    Led by Mindy Meiering, LCSW, this meaningful gathering offers a space to honor the beloved pets who have left paw prints on our hearts. Through simple rituals, poetry, music, and shared reflection, we'll come together as a community to remember, celebrate, and find comfort in the enduring bond we share with our animal companions.

    The gathering begins at 3:30 p.m., with the ceremony taking place from 4:00–5:00 p.m. on the beautiful grounds behind the shelter in the rear parking/pass-through area between the Sally Port entrance and the Care Cottage, overlooking the river.
